SERGIO SCARIOLO will be one of the great lecturers of 2016 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four International Coaches Clinic, that will be held in Berlin from May 13 to 15, 2016, and, for the third year in a row, organized by Giorgio Gandolfi, Sport Marketing, Events and Communication, after the two past editions of Milan and Madrid.
"We're extremely glad of the immediate availability of Sergio Scariolo, already with us at 2011 International Coaches Clinic in Pesaro. Aside Scariolo, we have again an outstanding panel of lecturers, such as MIKE BROWN, former coach of the Kobe Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers, and NBA Coach of the Year, DUSKO VUJOSEVIC, former Partizan, and other top European teams and Serbia and Montenegro National team coach, and Euroleague Coach of the Year, and JOHN PATRICK, Reisen Ludwigsburg coach, Eurochallenge winner with Gottingen, and BBL Coach of the Year" said Giorgio Gandolfi.
"Basketball it's a team sport: as an old wise man used to say, the only place where the word "US" comes before of "I". Spanish National Team Head Coach Sergio Scariolo defines in this way the sport to which he dedicated his entire life with passion and perseverance". Scariolo has been always ready to put himself on the line with an awareness. "If someone starts a road with only certainties, he will end with many doubts. But, if he's happy to starts with doubts, he will end with some certainties".
Scariolo started his coaching career in 1980 as assistant head coach in Brescia and Pesaro, where later he became head coach, and led Scavolini Pesaro to win the Italian Championship in 1990 at 29 years old. In Italy he also coached Desio and Fortitudo Bologna, where in 1994 he won the Coach of the Year award. From 1997 his career continued in Spain, first with Tau Vitoria, winning one Copa del Rey, then with Real Madrid, one ACB title and one Copa del Rey, and Unicaja Malaga, one ACB title and one Copa del Rey. In 2008 he moved to Khimki Moscow, and in 2009 he also became Spanish National team head coach, winning the 2009 and 2011 Eurobasket, and the Silver medal at 2012 Olympic Games. In 2011 he came back to Italy, signing for EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, then in 2012 he came back to Spain with Laboral Kutxa Vitoria, leaving the bench of the Spanish National Team, where he sat again in 2015, winning his third Eurobasket.
"It's a life choice. When it is possibile I'm always glad to come back to Italy, even if today I feel more involved in Spanish basketball movement. And when you sit on the Spanish National team bench, and you hear the national anthem, you understand that to be involved with this team, it's not only write X's and O's on the coach board" Scariolo said.
